"Just Wait"

Recently, I read a blog about a mother who was waiting in line behind a lady with two small children in a store. Of course, the kids were being kids and an older lady in front of her told the young mom "Oh you just wait..." Basically meaning what every other "seasoned" mother means when that comes out of their mouth...You just wait until they are teenagers, until they tell you they hate you, until they break curfew, etc. Well this got the blogger thinking about what she really should tell the young mom about the real "just waits" in life with kids. I read some of hers, through tears, and came up with some of my own. I now know that if I hear someone say that to another mom, or even to me, I have a response that will make the exhausted young mom smile. 



Just wait: until your son takes his 1st steps toward you. 


Just wait: until your son tells you he loves you for the 1st time. 


Just wait: until your son can run into your arms after you come home from somewhere. 


Just wait: until your son understands Halloween and RUNS as fast as he can and yelling as excitedly as he can "Mom, I GOT CANDY!" 


Just wait: until you drop off your son at preschool and through tears you are saying goodbye as he runs in waving and yelling "bye mom, see you soon!".


Just wait: until you pick up your son from his 1st day of preschool and he runs to give you a hug and says he missed you. 


Just wait: until you watch your son, through MAJOR tears, in his 1st preschool program singing loudly and off cue but enjoying every minute. And smiling at you every chance he gets. 


Just wait: until you watch your son start pedaling by himself on his bike with no training wheels. Then just wait as he realizes he is doing it and becomes off balanced and crashes. And laughs. 


Just wait: until you are watching your son walk into his kindergarten class on the 1st day of school and he turns to wave at you. 


Just wait: until your son realizes he can read. It will totally melt your heart.


Just wait: until you stop and stare at your daughter cuddling with her daddy. There is NOTHING better than a daddy's girl. Especially a daddy's girl sandwiched between two boys!


Just wait: until you walk into the room and see your son and daughter hugging each other while watching cartoons. No better love.


Just wait: until your daughter shows empathy and compassion for the 1st time when she brings you a band-aid to "fix boo-boo" and then proceeds to kiss it to make it "allllllll betta"


Just wait: until you tell your 2 oldest kids that mommy is pregnant and they start to cry. Then just wait until as they both smile at you as they feel your belly as the new baby starts to kick. Then just wait until they come to the hospital to meet their newest sibling and cannot keep their hands and kisses off of him!


Just wait: until you turn on music and as if on cue, all 3 kids start dancing. It does not matter where in the house they are, if they hear the music, they come running and start dancing. Never fails to bring a smile to my face.


Just wait: until you have a fun filled day at the aquarium or zoo and as soon as you get in the car to go home, all 3 kids are asleep and happy. 


Just wait: until you are sitting at the computer and are able to come up with some of these. It means that your kids are growing up way too fast. 

I could seriously sit here for an hour and come up with more of these but I need to start dinner. What is important about this post is seeing the beauty in the stage of life you are in at the moment. Do not look ahead and dread what might be coming your way. Yes, everyone goes through the teenage years with their kids, and yes they may not be the easiest, but do not ruin the little moments before that make it all worth while!
